You may have this in your kitchen, but did you know that it can also help with seasonal sinus infections? It’s true.
Thyme (usually seen as Thymus vulgaris) has been used for centuries as an antiseptic and is widely found in our homes as a spice, as well as in many personal care products. In fact, many mouthwashes use thyme (thymol, the essential oil) and combine it with menthol and eucalyptol (essential oils of eucalyptus) to kill bacteria.
In use for your sinuses, thyme can aid in killing harmful bacteria that can further cause negative effects to your immune system. Many choose to add thyme to their diets through cooking, but for an additional boost, you can try using essential thyme oil or supplements that contain thyme to support fungal infections, coughs, bronchitis, and yes, even those pesky sinus infections that seem to crop up all winter long.
As for uses, most people tend to use a thyme supplement in drop form, to be mixed with water. Some also use this essential oil (with proper care and instruction) in nasal washes, or for aromatherapy.
At OVitaminPro, we do carry several thyme supplements, including Wise Woman Herbals Thymus vulgaris which contains the dry, organic, flowering herb of thyme in a base of organic alcohol and spring water for easy use.
