In the spirit of the start of a new year, we want to give you five easy ways to keep up with your health from the start of 2012 so that you can stay healthy all year long – and for many years to come.
Many of these tips are practical and common sense, but it’s always a good reminder to hear them every now and again:
Revamp your diet. The holidays are a time when most people pack on the extra pounds, but the start of a new year can also mean the start of a new diet. In 2012, make a healthy diet one of your first priorities, as this can ensure great health, weight loss, and even improved longevity. In our experience a gluten-free, high protein diet that’s rich in lots of fresh fruits and veggies is best. If you’re not sure what’s going to work for you, talk to a healthcare professional or a nutritionist.
Make time to reduce stress. We all know the effects stress can have on our lives. It’s important to limit your stress and reduce the amount of strain you put on your mind, body and spirit. So, in 2012, make it a point to reduce stress through meditation, yoga, reading, or just taking a bath. Whatever you enjoy doing to relax, do it! See if you can give yourself at least 30 minutes a day to unwind.
Get more sleep. Sleep gives our bodies time to renew, rejuvenate, and recharge – literally! Getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night is a must, and if you can, get about 8.5. The extra Z’s can mean improved metabolism, more energy, and even boosted immunity!
Practice preventative care. This is something we often don’t think about, but it plays a huge part in our overall health and well-being. Practice preventative care by making your scheduled doctor’s appointments, dentist appointments, etc. Also, if you’re taking any prescriptions, be sure you’re taking them properly. Same thing goes for supplements. Additionally, you may want to work with your healthcare professional on putting together a preventative care plan that’s right for you.
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Taking care of your body means exercising it! Make time every day to get in 30 minutes of exercise, whether it’s walking, running, biking, swimming, hiking, skating, skiing, or dancing. No matter what your choice of activity, remember to get your heart rate up, as this builds endurance and improves cardiovascular function.
How will you be getting healthier in 2012?
