Without nutrients, we couldn’t survive. Our bodies need finite quantities of certain nutrients in order to perform basic functions. Vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fats…these are the sorts of things that make digestion, cellular regeneration, healing, immune system function, growth, thinking, and breathing possible. To put it simply, you can’t go without the right nutrients.

One of the most basic and fundamental components of a healthy diet is that of vitamins. Chiefly, the 13 vitamins in our diets are as follows:

  • Vitamin A: Comes in the form of retinol, retinal, and carotenoids like beta carotene
  • Vitamin B1: Also known as thiamine.
  • Vitamin B2: Riboflavin is the chief source of Vitamin B2
  • Vitamin B3: Niacin or niacinamide are sources of B3.
  • Vitamin B5: Pantothenic acid is the source of B5.
  • Vitamin B6: Pyriodoxine, pyridoxamine, or pyridoxal are sources of Vitamin B6.
  • Vitamin B7: Biotin, usually found in supplement form, is the chief source of B7.
  • Vitamin B9: Folic acid or folinic acid are forms of B9.
  • Vitamin B12: Cyanocobalamin, hydroxycobalamin, and methylcobalamin are all forms of B12.
  • Vitamin C: Also known as asorbic acid
  • Vitamin D: Ergocalciferol and cholecalciferol are two forms of Vitamin D.
  • Vitamin E: Tocopherols and tocotrienols are forms of Vitamin E.
  • Vitamin K: Phylloquinone and menaquinones are sources of Vitamin K.

All of these vitamins are required for a healthy body. Most we get from our food, but some vitamins come from other sources. For example, gut flora produces vitamin K and biotin and sunlight helps synthesize vitamin D in the skin.

But if you want to make sure that you healthy amounts of all 13 vitamins, it’s best to incorporate a wide variety of foods into your diet, including fresh fruits and vegetables, unrefined vegetable oils, eggs, citrus, rice bran, and some meat. However, if you have dietary considerations that prevent you from eating some of these foods, you can also turn to supplements to help you up your supply.

At OVitaminPro.com, we’re proud to carry vitamin supplements that help you ramp up your supply of a specific vitamin or a blend of vitamins; it’s your choice. Depending on your specific dietary needs (which are best addressed by talking to your healthcare professional), you may need one supplement or several to ensure you receive the proper amount of vitamins.
